About Noto Sans Meroitic
Ancient Meroe, capital of the Kushite kingdom in present-day Sudan, gave rise to two related writing forms — Meroitic Hieroglyphs and Meroitic Cursive — both encoded as separate Unicode blocks. This Noto typeface covers both scripts, as well as the unified Meroitic block, making it an indispensable resource for Egyptologists and Africanists studying the Napatan and Meroitic periods. Despite decades of scholarship, Meroitic remains only partially deciphered, lending these letterforms an air of historical mystery.
