Andrew Paglinawan's Quicksand is a rounded display sans inspired by the work of Edward Johnston and Eric Gill, trading their classical authority for a softer, friendlier personality formed by subtly rounded stroke terminals. The variable weight axis allows it to move from delicate light settings to a punchier bold, all while maintaining its approachable character. It is well-suited for children's products, wellness brands, and any interface where a tone of playfulness or informality is the goal.
Design Analysis
Quicksand is a display sans-serif with rounded terminals and geometric letterforms built on circular and rectangular primitives. Its stroke width is remarkably even, and the rounded endpoints give every weight a soft, inviting character. The design sacrifices some small-size legibility for a distinctive, polished display personality.
Recommended Use Cases
Best for brand logos, app names, and display headings in lifestyle, wellness, and creative contexts. Avoid extended body text; instead, pair with a more conventional sans-serif like Open Sans for reading passages.
