Noto Sans Old Italic encodes the ancient Italic script, the ancestor of the Latin alphabet used by Etruscan, Oscan, Umbrian, and other Italic peoples of pre-Roman Italy from roughly the seventh century BCE onward. The single-weight face provides scholars, historians, and students of classical epigraphy with a reliable digital tool for reproducing these inscriptions in academic publications and reference databases. Its inclusion in the Noto project reflects the commitment to encoding every historically attested writing system.
