Noto Sans Soyombo encodes the Soyombo script, invented in 1686 by the Mongolian scholar and Buddhist leader Zanabazar as a universal script capable of writing Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Mongolian. The lead glyph of the script, the Soyombo symbol, later became the national emblem of Mongolia and appears on its flag.
